Invisalign Braces

Now you can show off your smile while straightening your teeth with clear Aligners from Invisalign.

Invisalign is an orthodontic process developed by Align Technology.  Instead of  “braces”, Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic trays called Aligners that are specifically designed and fabricated for your case.  Each Aligner is slightly different from the one before, causing minor movements to your teeth and guiding them to a more perfect position.  Aligners are clear and removable, moving your teeth on step at a time.

Invisalign has many benefits, the greatest being that they are almost invisible.  The patient changes into a fresh Aligner about every two weeks.  Being removable, the patient is able to brush and floss as usual, and eat their normal diet.

At the offices of Old Dominion Family Dental, our Doctors have been Invisalign Certified for over eight years.  The process begins with a consultation.  Our Doctors will evaluate your particular situation to determine if you are a candidate for Invisalign.  The treatment is not appropriate for children, but older teens and adults with slight to moderate orthodontic needs can take advantage of this fabulous new technology.

  • Aligners also act as Bruxing Guards for patients with dual needs.

After an exam and consultation, one of our Doctors will discuss the different orthodontic options for achieving the esthetic results the patient desires.  If you are a candidate for Invisalign, special Invisalign Records must be taken.  These include a Panorex X-ray, Detailed Photos of the patient's smile, a Bite Impression, and special Upper and Lower Invisalign Impressions.  The case is then sent to Align Technologies where the records are transformed into a digital image called a ClinCheck.  Between the Doctor and the Invisalign Consultant, a treatment plan is developed.  Before making the final decision, the patient can view the ClinCheck with the Doctor and ask any questions they may have.

The initial tray is fashioned very close to the patients existing teeth.  Approximately every two weeks, the patient changes the Aligners, each new Aligner being slightly different from the one before.  These slight changes help to move the teeth step-by-step to their new position on the arch.  You should wear the tray as close to 24 hours a day / seven days a week to shorten the length of treatment and to achieve the desired outcome.  Unless otherwise dictated by the case, our Doctors will monitor the system's progress every six weeks, dispensing the next three sets of trays at that time.  When the treatment is complete, the patient will need to wear a Retainer System, but like the Aligners, Invisalign Retainers are clear and virtually invisible.

We are pleased to offer this innovative technology to our patients and to help improve their smile.
